Vacation Spot #1: Santa Fe, New Mexico<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Santa Fe is one of the oldest cities in the United States. \u201cFounded\u201d by\nSpanish colonials in 1610, the city was home to multiple Pueblo Indian villages\ndating back to the 11th century. Today, Santa Fe embraces the various strands\nof its history. Visitors can check out the Palace of the Governors<\/a>, the seat of Spanish power since its\nconstruction in the 1600s or one of the eight Pueblos<\/a> north of Santa Fe. In addition to history,\nSanta Fe is known for its art. Sites such as the Georgia\nO\u2019Keefe Museum<\/a>\nand Meow Wolf<\/a> are not only tourist places but attract the locals as well. Or take a short\ndrive from Madison to the village of Spring Green to tour the summer home of\nFrank Lloyd Wright. Not-to-miss places\nto visit in the area include Deadwood<\/a> and the Badlands National Park<\/a>. Take a drive along the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway<\/a> and stop at Bridal Veil Falls for gorgeous\nviews. Don\u2019t forget to pack a picnic! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a friend who went to school at the\nUniversity of Oregon or know anyone who has lived in Eugene, you\u2019ve heard a lot\nabout this place. People who have lived there rave about it \u2013 and for good\nreason. There\u2019s a lot to do in this city located on the southern end of the\nWillamette Valley. Don some comfy footwear because Eugene, referred to as Track Town, USA<\/a>, is known for its outdoor activity and well, appreciation for running.\nNothing symbolizes this more than Hayward Field<\/a>, considered the most expensive and state of the art track-only facility\nin the country. If you prefer hiking to running, be sure to do the Spencer Butte Loop Trail<\/a> \u2013 a short hike of just over a mile \u2013 or go for an extended\nadventure on the Fall Creek Trail<\/a> to check out some old growth forests and swimming holes. If you have\nthe time, head west to Thor\u2019s\nWell<\/a>, a wholly\/holey unique\ngeological feature roughly 90 minutes outside of Eugene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s part of the culture and daily\natmosphere, so don\u2019t be surprised to find yourself surrounded by locals wearing\ncowboy hats and spurs, or find the occasional horse waiting patiently outside\nan establishment. The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall\nof Fame<\/a> is a must\nsee and there is nothing like experiencing a real cattle drive. You can catch\nthe latter twice daily<\/a> straight down East Exchange Avenue in the Stockyards National Historic\nDistrict<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vacation Spot #7: New Hampshire<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just . . . all of it. It\u2019s one of the smallest states in the U.S. but\nits small size belies a cornucopia of places to visit and a range of activities. Flume Gorge<\/a> in Franconia Notch State Park is definitely a\nplace to check out while considering where to travel. The Gorge is an 800-foot-long crack in the base\nof Mount Liberty; it\u2019s bordered by walls 70 feet high and parallels a stream.\nIt\u2019s also an incredibly beautiful hiking experience. Expect to spend an hour\nand a half on the loop. Seeing the countryside by railway is also an option.\nTake a ride on the Conway\nScenic Railroad<\/a>\nand get an authentic feel for an old-fashioned railroading experience. Be sure\nto get a window seat to take in the mountains, forests, and rivers of New\nHampshire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vacation Spot #8: Apostle Islands, WI<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you haven\u2019t been to the Great Lakes, you are missing out. With over\n9,000 miles of shoreline (more if you include islands) these Lakes are not only\nthe largest supply of freshwater on earth, they offer some of the best places to visit in the U.S.A.\nThe Apostle Islands may be the coolest place to visit you\u2019ve never heard about. It\u2019s a\ncollection of 22 islands in Lake Superior, just off the Ashland and Bayfield\ncounties in northern Wisconsin. There are ten lighthouses<\/a> on the islands, each with its own story. There\nare also plenty of long ago shipwrecks<\/a>!  Rent a\ncanoe or take a guided boat tour<\/a> along the islands and be sure to stop at one of\nthe islands\u2019 beautiful beaches. The water will be cold but the views will be on\nfire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
