Fall is officially here. And, if you\u2019re like us, you probably still haven\u2019t gotten around to the somewhat mundane \u2013 but necessary \u2013 chore of swapping out summer clothes for fall and cleaning out your closet for a fresh start to the season. No shame here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can be a time-consuming task, but the fun part about cleaning and organizing your clothes, accessories, and shoes is that you\u2019ll reap the rewards of your work every time you get dressed for the next several months. Plus, taking care of your clothes \u2013 and donating ones you don\u2019t need while they\u2019re still in good enough shape to be reworn \u2013 are important steps in the creation of a more eco-friendly wardrobe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nfirst step is probably going to be the hardest. Take a deep breath\u2026and then\ntake out everything that you wear and put it in a central space (preferably on\nand around your bed or somewhere else clean). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That may\nseem completely overwhelming or impossible depending on how many items you\nhave. If necessary, you can do this in stages \u2013 such as one closet at a time,\nor even one drawer at a time. But if possible, it would be best if you can\nstart with a totally clean slate by emptying out all of your dressers and\nclosets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While\nyou\u2019re pulling your items out, you can give yourself a head start by tossing\nanything obviously broken or damaged beyond the point of repair into a trash\nbag. This includes storage items, like hangers, bags, and bins. If your dry cleaner\nrecycles metal clothes hangers, set those aside with your dry cleaning items\nfor drop off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also set\naside anything missing a part or piece \u2013 like a shoe without its pair, a bag\nwithout its strap, and items of that nature. If the missing piece doesn\u2019t show\nup during this excavation, consider it toast and move on.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last but\nnot least, take out anything that you\u2019ve been storing with your clothes, shoes,\nand accessories that doesn\u2019t belong there. Make the effort to figure out\nsomewhere else to put it. Try to keep your spaces dedicated specifically to\nyour personal items to reduce stress, chaos, and disorganization. Next on\nthe list is to clean your closets, dressers and anywhere else you\u2019re storing\nyour clothes. If you haven\u2019t truly emptied these areas since you moved in, you\nmight be in for a surprise at how dusty they are. Don\u2019t fret. There\u2019s truly\nnothing easier to clean than a blank space \u2013 and once you\u2019ve got them spic and\nspan, you\u2019ll be much pickier about the items you put back in them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
