Add winter storms and the always large\nspike in holiday travel numbers during the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving,\nChristmas and New Year\u2019s Day, and you\u2019ve got a lot of people \u2013 and a lot of\nbags \u2013 needing to get from here to there and back again in a timely and safe\nmanner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No wonder\nit\u2019s stressful to fly. Here are some tips.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s\nno doubt about it: if you\u2019re traveling for the holidays this year, it\u2019s going\nto be hectic and expensive. Probably next year too. (And every year to follow.)\nAccording to the Hopper booking app, <a href=\"https:\/\/media.hopper.com\/research\/2022-holiday-travel-outlook\">Thanksgiving airfares are 43% higher in 2022 than in 2021<\/a>.\nConsidering most airlines tack checked baggage fees onto these already sky-high\nprices, it makes sense that customers are trying to cram as much as they can\ninto their carry-ons, and leave the excess behind. And that\u2019s where we come in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Travel Packing Tips <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2013 Carry-On Bags<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Roll,\nroll, roll those clothes. <\/strong>Forget folding. If you\u2019re trying to save\nspace, rolling your clothes is the only way to go. You\u2019ll likely be surprised\nhow much <em>less <\/em>wrinkled they are when\nyou unpack!<\/li><li><strong>Understand\n\u2013 and prepare for \u2013 TSA rules. <\/strong>The Travel Safety Administration\n(TSA) doesn\u2019t play when it comes to the size of your toiletries. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/travel\/security-screening\/liquids-rule\">Get very familiar with the requirements.<\/a> When\npossible, switch to items like solid shampoo and sunscreen to avoid the hassle\nat screening.<\/li><li><strong>Wear your\nbulkiest items. <\/strong>Always wear boots, cardigans and coats on\nplanes rather than packing them. Find space under a seat or in an overhead bin\nfor these items rather than take up precious room in your bag. <\/li><li><strong>Use\npacking cubes or compression bags. <\/strong>These\ndevices will help you squeeze more items into your bag on the way out, and are\nalso great to separate dirty clothes in during your trip.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Maximize\nthat personal item. <\/strong>Airlines typically allow for a free personal\nitem, so make sure you\u2019re making the most of it. Use a spacious backpack with\nroom for a water bottle, laptop, prescriptions, wallet, extra clothes,\netc.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Check with your airline about the allowed dimensions for your carry-on luggage before you buy (or pack) anything for your trip. It\u2019s usually up to the gate agents whether or not they want to be strict about the rules or let a slightly larger carry-on pass by without question, so always remember to smile. &nbsp; <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One last tip: If you are planning to go carry-on only for your trip, try to get a ticket with an early boarding time to ensure there is space in the overhead luggage storage space for your bag. It\u2019s frustrating to go through all the hassle of packing a small bag only to have to check it anyway because too many other people had the same idea \u2013 and got there first! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Pack a Checked Bag\nfor Air Travel<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Packing a\nchecked bag can feel like breathing a sigh of relief \u2013 look at all the space!\nBut that space can sure fill up quickly if you\u2019re not careful about what and\nhow you pack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tips\nabove about how to pack a carry-on for air travel also\napply to checked bags. You\u2019re still going to want to roll your clothes, invest\nin packing cubes and\/or compression bags, wear your bulkiest items, and pack as\nmuch as you can into your personal item. Stuff those\nshoes with your boxer briefs.
