The staff at this CubeSmart location are great. I reserved my space online, and, when I saw it, I realized I needed a bigger one. The gentleman who was working was very helpful, rebooking my unit and making sure the discount from when I booked carried over to the new unit. The next day, when my movers arrived to deliver the items I’d be storing, he was on hand and helped my movers find a close spot for parking the truck and opening another loading door so I avoided long-carry fees.

I called and asked specifically for a disability unit and I was guaranteed one. After I paid. I was told there weren’t any and I have to go to the second floor. Then terry told me I had to pay more because it’s a premium unit. I have to pay extra because I’m handicap??? Update: I asked for a supervisor. I called customer service and left a complaint. I even emailed from the response on this review. No one has contacted me back

Have had a storage unit here for years and it has been a nightmare from the beginning. They increased my rent 3 times over the course of 6 months without notifying me (said they had the wrong address on file even though my profile has correct address) which ended up tripling my rent. When I came in to discuss this, the front desk guy was confrontational about it, then charged my credit card for the same transaction three times (was smiling and kept saying to charge it again because it wasn't going through). Tried calling several times with no answer and ended up having to dispute with my credit card company. Just so happens 3/4 of their garage doors were inoperable and there several upset people dealing with that issue at the same time. Save yourself a lot of hassle and find a different storage company to go with that is not intentionally fraudulent.

Within minutes of arriving at the facility and parking my motor scooter ?? on the Cube Smart property beneath a video camera, someone stole the vehicle. I alerted David, the manager and he immediately stated that cameras are non functional but that if they were, Cube Smart would not share evidence w customers or police unless ordered by Court to do so. Amazingly obnoxious disingenuous and uncooperative.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Save yourself the heartbreak and look elsewhere. Our entire unit was infested with mice. There were mouse droppings EVERYWHERE. on our couches. Mattress. On boxes. In bags. It’s absolutely gut wrenching. It smelled horrible and ruined thousands of dollars of our belongings. And their “protection plan” doesn’t cover rodent damage… they classify that as “wear and tear”. This is going to cost us thousands. I would never ever ever recommend storing belongings here. Attached are just some of the photos we took. There was a rat in the loading dock too, where they kept trash out… no wonder mice infested our unit. They are negligent and clearly don’t keep this place clean. This has been a NIGHTMARE.

This facility only does month to month leases so that they can drastically increase the price whenever they want, with only 30 days notice. I was told that a small unit’s standard rate was $300 (wayyyyy more than anyone would pay for 5x8) and so I should be happy my rate was only going up to less than that. This process has felt very bait and switch. Agree with others that Desmond is helpful when you reach him but I’ve often gotten a more surly employee who probably can’t affect this policy, but nonetheless was still not very helpful. Edit in response to business: to be clear, we did call both customer service and the facility to discuss and were unable to resolve this issue.

This place was awful and the worker on the clock refused to help me as it was my first time at the unit. He laughed at me and refused to help me for his own entertainment and ultimately made me cry as moving is already stressful enough. I won’t be recommending this unit to anyone as that was probably one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I went into the office three times asking for his help nicely and he refused, I didn’t understand what I did for him to be unwilling to help me. He said that if he were to help every college student like me, he would be exhausted by the end of the day! What a crazy idea, because everyone is just refreshed after their day at work. The gentleman who was also helping me move my stuff into the unit went into the office and asked for him to help me and he still refused.

This review is only for the Washington DC R Street NE location. This storage facility is terrific only due to the manager, Desmond! It is not the prettiest or the most modern. However, the manager keeps this place humming like a fine tune engine. It is also spotless and accessible for wheelchair clients. Now, Cubesmart has bumped their damn heads on what they charge for storage. The prices need to be adjusted big-time. Nevertheless, they align with other storage prices that must be changed big-time. However, the other facilities are newer. I would recommend this location for storage based on the other factors.

1. The facility is indeed mostly well lit and appealing. However, the storage units are advertised as climate controlled and they are NOT. Instead, it is hot and humid in the summers, cold in the winter. 2. CubeSmart baits and switches. Bait and switch is a form of fraud where customers are lured into paying for service at an attractive price, which price then increases arbitrarily to exorbitant amounts. We rented space for about $160, and about a year later, the price reached $270. We politely enquired about this extortion but management said it's in the contract and CubeSmart can raise its prices whenever it wants. CubeSmart was not experiencing any sudden or acute increase in the cost of conducting its business. They were just gouging a long standing customer because they could. 3. Because CubeSmart declined to lower the exorbitant price increase despite lengthy discussions, we rented a smaller storage unit within CubeSmart for about $145. However, CubeSmart raised their prices again within about 6 months, this time to $200. 4. We confirm the comment by another customer about the Asian manager who was condescending and supercilious to the point of vulgarity; one can be vulgar without using four letter words. 5. Therefore, if you want a storage unit for a few months, CubeSmart might work for you. Otherwise, prepare to pay extortionary and exorbitant prices.

When there was a possible leak in my unit he was very communicative and respectful of my things (it was coming from one of my boxes not the facility). He also helped me change the lock on my unit when I was out of town promptly and kept me informed every step of the way. The pricing is fair and the facility is clean. Unfriendly. Raised rate 50% in 6 months without notice. I asked if there was an error on my account. Desmond told me to wait to pay until the bill was adjusted since they’re required to provide 30 days notice and I hadn’t received notice. Meanwhile Desmond put a lock on my unit without notice even though we spoke on the phone and he emailed me to let me know my adjusted bill was ready. Paid bill the day after he emailed me. Closed on Sundays yet door says open 11-3. Had to reschedule flight because I could not get my gear out - due to the lock - Sunday before flight. I showed up to my unit to find a lock without any heads up.

The General Manager, Desmond Macalino, and the other employees (Chris and Qui Ana) are very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. To improve security at the facility, it is recommended that security measures such as security cameras or robotics security be installed at or around each unit.

When my debit card expired I received a polite call and they updated my information rather than charge me a late fee. When I finally relocated due to work Desmond was extremely helpful when I had some logistic issues with my moving truck. Will definitely use this location again when I'm back in town.

I'll split this into two separate reviews. The R street location is great, easily accessible, never waited for parking or an elevator, and Desmond (GM) addressed my questions and concerns. Very happy on this front. I dinged a star because of the main customer service hotline. I spoke to them three times and was given an incorrect definition of month-to-month (it's one day before the date of the month you rented, i.e. you rent on the 15th, you have it until the 14th of the following month). There's so many CubeSmarts around, I'd advise you to just walk in and ask questions in person.

Had my unit from April 2020 til February 2022. During a pandemic my rent went up 3 or 4 times. When everyone else is keeping rents the same to help the situation CubeSmart is raising them. Also, more often than not, I couldn't pay my rent through the app because it was kind of low budget, consequently it never worked.

I had a unit here for more than four years. It is conveniently located and easy to access through the loading bays and multiple elevators. In particular, Chris was terrific, very helpful when I was moving in and still great when I was moving out. I have always felt confident about my ability to access my unit, and I think their communication has been very clear. Auto pay was easy to set up/maintain. I would've liked if the pricing had stayed low for longer, but I also could've changed to a smaller unit later, instead of just keeping the larger space for my own convenience. I've recommended it to at least four people who have gotten their own spaces and been happy with them as well.

Kind Staff My girlfriend and I got a large unit at the beginning of the pandemic to dump all of our belongings from our apartments when school went online. Over a year later when we returned to DC for graduation, we went back to the unit to grab some stuff for the summer, and Desmond remembered us from a year ago and offered his help. He remembered we were a young couple in COVID with a tight budget and helped us downsize the unit, which allowed us to take advantage of their monthly deal saving us hundreds!

The Staff were fantastic (Five stars) however the facility needs some updates. When I first reached out to them for a storage locker, I was informed that two of the loading Bay Doors were broke and could not be used. A month later on moving day, they were still broke and only one of the two functioning doors could be raised high enough to accommodate a 13 foot moving truck. It was in use so we had to unload from the street. Their complimentary moving carts are few and in poor condition. More resources need to go to facility upkeep. Great Staff!

After my older sister unexpectedly passed away earlier this year, Desmond and Furqan went above and beyond to make sure that closing out her account and moving her belongings from the storage facility went as smoothly as possible. I must have called to ask questions or confirm plans at least 10 times and both Desmond and Furqan remembered me and were not only compassionate, but friendly able to quickly and efficiently assist with any inquiries I had. I would recommend this self storage to anyone based on the customer service alone. I'm extremely appreciative of the time and patience both of them gave to my situation - it made such a huge difference for me.

Well... Kinda Bait & Switch Biz. Example: The price is advertised as $59 online, walk-in $79 in 3 to 6 months the price changes a great deal to $115. Why, the market and demand changes the monthly rate. SMH. This is not in them paperwork or advertised. Switched Marketing. Beware and Be warned. Not all storage companies are the same. The $1 for the first month also not what you think.

I used them for short term storage so the one-month free promo really saved me. The check in process was also smooth online with my lock and things neatly placed in the unit waiting for me: tip sign your lease on the day you want your recurring payment. So talk about contact-free, they're on their game. There aren't too many carts but it didn't slow me down too much. Also didn't find myself waiting too long for the elevator. The check out was also very smooth for me. Shout out to Desmond and India in the office who are responsible for the great service!!

Thought they were nice when I stored my stuff... Now I'm moving out and they're charging me for an extra month I'm not using! My move out date is 7 days after my billing date (one day past their allowed period of 6 days). They won't even let me pay prorated for the time I'm using the unit! Absolutely ludicrous, considering all the crazy COVID stuff that's going on. DO NOT RENT from here!!

Decent. The units are climate controlled and the elevator requires a security code to keep your units more secure. The entire loading dock and elevators smell like urine - more human pee in that area than I have ever experienced. Also, the loading carts they supply are useless. All of them are broken and destroyed. The units also don't have a light, so be prepared to use your phone flashlight alot or have a helper. Staff is really nice.

I do not have any complaints about the facility but I do have a problem with management. During this time of Covid-19 pandemic management/owners have decided to go ignore what everyone is going through. After I was a couple of days late with my payment they decided to call me and notify meet that I was late and they would be following their usual policy of double locking my gate. After speaking to management and asking for some type of relief or discount, they offered to remove the lock for 15 minutes if I needed to retrieve anything. They continue to call me and ask for payment even though I explained to them that I am not fully employed at this time. While I have been a loyal reliable customer for 5 years they had nothing to offer but on their website they are offering half off to new customers. I just think that their management or owner is being very insensitive when most people are finding themselves in a hardship. Hopefully, they can find some compassion

The location is in the Eckington community and there are plenty of spots to unload and pack. The facilities offer dolleys and other items to make moving items easier. However, these are only available in the office, which I have found to be closed during the day. I went in on Monday at 2 pm and they closed the office until 3 pm without any heads up. The first month free deal is great, but they could do a better job with new registrations. I received a call the day before my agreement was supposed to start and they never mentioned needing to bring a lock or needing to have storage insurance for $2,000. Because of the lack of information, I ended up paying $60 for all the additions that they never mentioned until I was there signing the agreement. From other reviews, I am expecting a large fee increase in 6 months, so I wouldn't suggest this for long term rental. However, it works for short term well. The employees are nice and will show you a variety of units. Look out for yourself and pick what's best for you.

I stored my personal items at this facility for three years, and I never had a problem accessing my unit. Whenever I had questions, I was able to get someone right away to help. The online billing made things very easy to manage. It was a completely hassle-free storage experience for me, and the facility and units were well maintained, per their promise. Highly recommended.

Was trying to make a payment on Monday over the phone and was denied by Desmond and told to try the automated system. Once I tried that the balance was different and I could no longer make a payment over the phone. Call the next day balance doubled and was assessed a fee over $100! I understand I was late but if I was able to make the payment on Monday I wouldn't have had to over spend like this. Makes me feel like you're doing this on purpose! been a customer for almost 5 years I think and it's really disappointing.

It's quite frustrating that the rent is not fixed for your term. They can change the rent at any time with 30 days notice. The most frustrating part is that the customer service has been great, the move in experience is great, but now I am paying 30% more. My company agreed to pay the amount at the onset of the lease, not the current rate, so I am paying out of pocket for the increase. Storer beware. They should move to a model with fixed increases to be more transparent, like nearly any other business. They know it's nearly impossible for you to come back when you've gone out of the area and switch storage units, so it's a nice good old fashioned bait and switch.

Standard rent hikes. My rent has gone up 27% in about 16 months of use. I think every storage place does it, knowing that once your things are there it costs just as much to move them. But still. Awesome way to treat customers.

CubeSmart on 175 R St NE has excellent customer service. I reserved a unit online, they followed up with a phone call, I came in to see it, signed some papers and moved in the next day. The monthly rent seems reasonable, although I've never had storage before to compare it to. Oh and the hallways aren't too creepy as long as you get in and out, lol. All in all, i'm satisfied.

I have only had this unit for 6 months and the rent has already increased! I am already being charged a hefty amount for my 5 x15 and this rate hike (which they claim they notified me of) makes the amount ridiculous. The customer service rep I spoke to said it is the same thing ALL storage companies do but I know for a fact many wait at least a year before a rental hike and there are some that promise even later increases. He was absolutely no help and just said it was policy. I am now considering moving my items to a different location since I will need storage for at least another 6 to 8 months. This is terrible because it will cost me to move it again but that is better than staying with a place that never told me there would be rental hikes every 6 months! I am only giving this place a 2nd star because the place is clean and the initial manager, Danny, helped me when I first rented the place was kind and quickly switched me to a larger unit when my second shipment came from overseas came in and exceeded the size of the unit I had rented the week before.

It's in D.C., a very nice part of D.C. You're going to pay extra for that. But it deserves to be in that neighborhood. It's as easy to find as anything is in D.C. I had my stuff in there for a little more than a year. The online payment system was a little difficult to figure out. I dealt with the employees when I moved in and when I moved out. And both times, I received friendly, helpful service. Climate controlled and bug free. The only complaint I had was there the loading bays aren't always open. When I was moving out, there was only one bay open and there was a another group moving in. There was some creative maneuvering that had to be done.

As far as first impressions go, this facility and their staff, have it going on. Friendly, fast, organized. Efficient and easy process. All that has to hold up now is the safety and security of items stored TBD for how long and moving from 4 to 5 stars.

Our fees have gone from high to exorbitant. We have seen more than $100 increase per month in our rate in two years, and just got another $30 monthly increase. They lure you in with a good rate and then promptly start jacking it up ridiculously. We went from $90 monthly starting, to our new monthly rate : $230. Leaving them asap.

We were discriminated against by the staff person on duty Mr. Banner, he put us out of the facility to stand in the 91 degree heat for 17 minutes, claiming it was company policy that he lock the doors and make patrons wait outside during his absence. As I returned to ask a question he was gone, but a white girl was allowed to remain in the facility during his absence. "Double standards"? They need to post policies or let Black people know they really don't want our business. Ironically, this was a black person trained to discriminate against his own people. SHAMEFUL!!! Additionally, there was a 10% discount offer running, he never mentioned it, my husband asked about it because another person who was on staff the day before told him about it, the person on staff looked surprised when he asked and said he will see what he can do? POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! by a staffer can kill your business!!!!!

Overall a very positive experience with this facility. Loading docks and hand-trucks generally available, several elevators, and storage areas are clean and well-lit. On-site management has been friendly and helpful the few times I've interacted with them, and they sell locks, cardboard boxes, and packing supplies in the office if you need.
