My family has been a long time CubeSmart customer and until this point we have been satisfied with the service. On June 1, 2023 we attempted to have items retrieved and moved from the CubeSmart for a cross country move to Georgia. The paid movers were scheduled to retrieve the items on June 1st. To our surprise, a red lock was on the CubeSmart locker when we arrived with the movers and the office was closed. When speaking to the office the next business day, we were informed CubeSmart erroneously placed the locker on our storage unit and the unit should have been available as all expenses were paid. We were then told the lock will be removed immediately however this was the next business day and our movers were already gone. Understanding that accidents happen, we spoke to the manager and asked how would we be compensated for the inconvenience. We were unable to retrieve needed items such as necessary pieces of furniture and were faced with either buying new pieces or paying for additional movers. From this point on the service received has been horrendous. The local CubeSmart manager, while apologetic, stated only the regional manager can approve compensation. The regional manager was extremely rude, never once apologized for CubeSmart’s mistake, and refused to take accountability. When we asked for the case to be escalated, we never heard back. When we followed up a few months later on the status of the case, the customer support representative stated the storage unit was past due according to the regional manager and that’s why the locker was on the unit. This is a lie the regional manager put in the file to not solve the issue. We’ve shared with CubeSmart documentation confirming on time payment of the storage unit, the cost to ship the storage unit items separately due to the mistake, and the original moving documents showing the pickup we were unable to make due to the erroneous lock. CubeSmart has yet to address their mistake and try to make it right. To be clear this review is not about Rodney, but about his supervisors who refuse to address this error.

Revision to my below review. We have now discovered some missing items. Our tool bag/kit was taken. Fortunately this was just some old hand tools that we would keep in the trailer for minor repairs. Regardless, our property was broke into, our property stolen, and we feel violated. The manager of this location can no longer use his standard response of 'we never have problems like this'. Bottom line...DO NOT STORE YOUR STUFF HERE. The location was great for us, the account access online was also very convenient. The two issues we had with this location include: 1. Customer Service: Dealing with their customer service was a challenge. We put up with it because we didn't really have to deal with it often....until reason 2. 2. We had been storing our teardrop camper trailer in their 'secure' lot. We had discovered that someone had broke into it. Although nothing has been found missing we felt extremely violated. Management did follow up with us but see reason 1 above for how that might have gone. It's a shame because we felt the rates were good and the location was perfect (for anyone on that side of town). I can't speak to their internal storage, never saw it. But beware with the outdoor parking storage.

UPDATE: Rodney worked with us and our increase is now more in line with what we expected to see. He has been a pleasure to work with and prompt to address our concerns. We signed up for a 4 month promotion. It stated it was 35% off the "Rack" rate. So we expected an increase after 4 month promo. The manager Rodney also stated that they have some say in the increased amount also. Well our 5th month the rate increased just shy of 100% it doubled. I guess the rules for storage unit increases in Illinois is very skewed toward the storage provider and they can change rates randomly. It is almost a bait and switch method. I will be moving our stuff out ASAP.

I logged in to make a one-time payment and decided not to since I would be accessed additional fees for the transaction and ALREADY had autopay on file. So I logged out and just waited for auto pay to post. Well it never did so a lady associate called and resisted payment over the phone. At that time I waited that autopay be re-established and whatever glitch they had online be resolved. When we hung up Rodney called 5 minutes later and was rude and accusatory saying I had voluntarily unenrolled from autopay. He also said he would be removing me from the 30% off promotion I was guaranteed when so moved in and kept talking over me. I went back and forth with him for a few second before inevitably hanging up. I’ll be escalating my complaint to the corporate level. I’ve been a cube smart customer in several states and have NEVER had an issue until now. I understand regions and stores have sales quotas but trying to capitalize on an error your company made when I was compliant and worked with the first agent to quickly resolve the issue just to I increase or achieve sales is predatory and I will not stand for it. Pick a different location or another company to store your things with altogether.

I came in once to look at 3 available units. Showed my ID and registered for a reservation. When I came back to speak with an associate about price match, another gentleman (a manager?) was on the phone, but made a comment to me: - "So you're the guy who came in and walked around the whole building looking at units." - I said yes, thinking he was being friendly. - He said: "You were a security risk." - I asked if he was joking. - He said: " No, you were a security risk, and you don't need to look at 3 different units. A 10x10 is a 10x10." How incredibly rude, inconsiderate, and off-putting. He then waved me off and continued on the phone. The associate in front of me got flustered and responded that they didn't price match and asked me if I wanted to proceed with the reservation. I explained, that I needed to understand what the gentleman meant by his comment. I would never proceed with an establishment, that not only condemns a reasonable request to view the units, while having my ID and all, but makes it a point to tell a prospective customer what to do in such a patronizing manner. The gentleman said: "1-minute." I waited for 5-7 minutes, got up, asked the rep to cancel the reservation and left.

He is the absolute best customer service specialist I have every come across in my life, hands down. I actually wish I could have spent more time down there just to get a chance to talk with him. The rates were not excessive, however they continued to rise without explanation even after I’d downsized to a smaller unit, making the rate in the end comparable to the larger unit I’d switched from. The customer service of the on-site staff was phenomenal especially the service provided by the Manager, Rodney.

This was my first time experiencing CubeSmart and the young woman (Marsha) who showed me around the 407 E. 25th St location (25th and King Drive) in Chicago did a wonderful job. She made me feel more than comfortable when it came to possibly storing my items there for however long they need to stay. As a matter of fact when I found out she has only been with the company a month and a half, I was shocked. Her level of professionalism, and thoroughness explaining all of the mechanisms that anyone who stores with this particular CubeSmart will be privy to, mixed with her character is going to make this location a hot spot for people to store their items, if she hasn't already done so. Kudos to you CubeSmart for being smart enough to hire her. As a proud veteran, I'm generally hard on people when it comes to customer service, however she is by far the standard everyone in this field should shoot for (In my opinion). I was also able to meet the Manager (at the same location) as well who is credited with bringing the CubeSmart (where both he and Marsha are located) to the next level of cost efficient, clean and secure storage facility's within the City of Chicago.

I had a unit in mind where I want to rent but then my husband was admitted in the hospital due to some complications in his diabetes medication and wouldn’t be discharged till Thursday, so the manager of the facility said he’ll keep the unit booked for us till Thursday which would be the day my husband is discharged from the hospital so he can come take a look at it & pay the money to rent the unit. However, Thursday comes & my husband is discharged, so it’s time to go there & make a payment, once we got to the facility, the manager said “I was gone for the past couple of days & turns out my manager gave out the unit to someone else” keep in mind, the guy we dealt with is the manager and no one higher than him but so we don’t hold him accountable, he claims he is no manager, but his business card he gave me a week before says otherwise! Like dude, if you’re gonna promise me to keep a unit for me till my husband is discharged but then claim u are not a manager & lie to my face about u not being the manager...then I have no respect for you! Well for starters your company could pay me the $2,500 it owes me for the skylight that was damaged in my unit due to your negligence in allowing someone to occupy an adjacent unit that flooded and damaged my material. Secondly, you could provide more carts for the customers in the building. I don’t understand how a business can generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in monthly revenue yet only provide 4 carts that cost less than $50 each!! Third, there should be a direct correlation to rent increases and property increases. The increases in rent at this property simply go directly to the bottom line and NO capital improvements are made on the property EVER!! The list goes on, I’ve had my business material stored at this facility for upwards of 10 years. This is well before Cubesmart acquired it and I must say I’m not impressed at all!! Unfortunately your company seems to be one that cares more about its balance sheet and less about it’s customers. However I can say that raising the standards is no longer my concern. I’m moving to Life Storage in the VERY NEAR FUTURE. I’ve had enough!!!

Live in the area and notice the previous storage company had sold to CubeSmart. I figured I would try them (CubeSmart) since I wasn't impressed by previous storage company or staff. Great service. Friendly front desk. Convenient location. I used Cubesmart for three years (2014-2017) before moving out of the city. One night, we lost track of time and accidentally stayed past closing. The gate locked and we were stuck in the facility. We called the manager on duty and he worked to get us out. What could have been a very rude, unpleasant experience was met with understanding and professionalism.

We needed two spaces and he found us 2 spots next to each other and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. We have had a great experience and look forward to our time with Cube Smart.

A device in their office was auto-dialing our company every 6 minutes for days. After discovering the problem device, I simply contacted the Manager to resolve it. He was rude and told me to deal with the corporate office. I contacted the corporate office and they said they would take care of it. 2 days later I contacted this location again. Another rude manager answered and stated that the corporate office had to deal with this. Image having your business being called by a rouge device every 6 minutes for 5 days straight and no one at the location even cares. With my patience exhausted, I decided to call them every 6 minutes. It only took 4 calls to show them how difficult they had made my life during the last week. It took them 2 seconds to unplug the device. Real nice people working at this CubeSmart, they really care... about themselves.

Rodney, the manager at the CubeSmart located at 407 East 25th Street in Chicago. They show me grea gratitude to the wonderful staff here at the CubeSmart. Extremely helpful courteous attentive to problem solving. I could have never asked for a better storage and a group of professional staff. My experience so far has been good customer service which is crucial when it comes down to conducting business on a small or large scale.Acknowledging a customer when they enter your establishment is also crucial which the young man named John did. He was very professional in conducting business. He answered all of my questions and concerns. The location of this facility is convenience and easy accessible to the expressway and Lake Shore Drive.

I had my unit broken into at this location. Despite the so called 24hr surveillance and security, some hoodlum(s) easily cut through the flimsy mesh roofing on my unit and helped themselves to my items. As some of these were rather large, including a 47inch tv, it must have taken them sometime to do it. I would advise not to store any item of value at this location as it seems monitoring is non-existent. Fortunately insurance covered some of the items but I lost other irreplaceable items of sentimental value. After the theft, I switched to an identical unit and was promptly charged a higher monthly fee despite being assured by the manager that the rate would remain the same. So much for customer service. I moved my things out of the facility as soon as I could and closed my account (not itself a painless process). The whole affair left a sour taste in my mouth and I will probably never use Cubesmart again.

Have had a unit here for a few years now since it was a United storage and no real complaints. Clean, temperature controlled and overall good prices and security system. Since cubesmart has taken over the gate in the back is down much less frequently. Took off a star for that and annual rent increases. Overall good spot, moving out of the immediate area and still going to keep our unit here despite the distance inconvenience for our holiday stuff. :)
