This storage facility is the best in Illinois. I was there for 3 years in a 10x 10 storage unit. This storage facility is clean and very safe. You can pull multiple Vehicles inside. They have multiple Dolly carts. Five stars all the way. Theodore is a fantastic facilitator of this storage facility.

In general we were pleased with our experience however there was one issue. The large overhead interior exit door has been out of service for at least a month. While our movers were able to load through the hinged door this nevertheless made it take longer to load the truck. Since movers charge by the hour it consequently cost me money. Things break but this door was still not operating when we vacated. Very disappointing!

Facilities are clean and using the app is easy. My chief issue is that they do not have light sensors to cover all the access areas so you end up standing in a dark hall. It’s inconvenient for me, but I don’t want my wife or daughter going in without me. They are also slow to repair broken items. For example, the ceiling in the elevator has been missing a panel for months.

Chose extra space storage because they were like five minutes from my house, and they were only going to charge me $16 a month. I paid once, and the second time I had to pay they tell me that they are doubling my monthly rent to $36. That’s more than double what I had agreed to pay originally. We will be packing up our unit and going with a different company. I’m not paying $36 for a rental space so small I can’t even fit a bike in my unit.

I've had to keep my house stored since Covid due to having to sell it and move home. It was ok for a while but the $402 a month charges started and it's been very difficult to keep up with. I believe everything is safe and sound but haven't been there to know for sure. Nice facility overall, just expensive.

On your 3rd month you will receive a notice stating- due to current market we will be raising your monthly rent by $100 on your 5th month!!! No help from customer service what do ever!!! Nice, clean facility. Easy access in and out. But a complete bait and switch on price. After three months they are increasing our monthly rate ~$50. We can respect a price increase on an annual basis, but after three months…no! Do they want to retain customers? The way to retain customers is not by doing this. Furthermore, the same unit we rented three months ago is listing for less than we are renting for right now which is really confusing. Why are you trying to charge us more? Why not charge the new renters more? Guess we will need to look for another facility that actual wants to keep their customers and cares about the customer experience.

The space is nice, but today I had a problem because my price was almost doubled. Initially I was promised a monthly rate with no warning upon signing on that it was part of an offer and would go up in 3 months. In fact, I CHOSE it because of the rate. A worker told me off the record today that they are taught NOT to disclose this price hike to new customers. No apology, no care in her voice at all. No offer to make good. So just be warned of this dishonest customer service.

We love our double storage units. My daughter is a teacher who stores multiple seasonal decorations, supplies and books. We are always changing the decor of the classroom and moving the items in and out. The benefit of the covered inside drop off area, with elevators, is great especially when there are sub-zero temperatures. Plus the facility is always clean, dry, temp controlled and secure.

The facility is clean and well kept. It is secure and I am thrilled to be renting from there. However, I do have a big complaint. I rented the unit at $58.00. Four months later the price went up to $73. Okay, it was an introductory offer. However, within one year the price increased to $93. That's a 60% increase in one year. I love the place and I love the service, but I am profoundly disappointed in their pricing!!!!

Theo was so helpful and there was no sales pressure. It was easy to sign up for a month to try out the extra space facility. Everything is clean, no musty smell, and I felt safe going there. I’m using the space to store my artwork while we prepare for a forthcoming move. I didn’t feel comfortable having the movers handle my framed and glassed paintings. This may be the perfect storage for my home studio.

In all honesty, I used to love this place. Great environment although it can get a little hectic trying to park your vehicle inside the facility to drop off or pick up items from your storage. There's only so much room for vehicles to enter. My biggest gripe is the pricing. Signed up a few years ago and it had a great price for the longest time. I was told that if they raise the price, to contact them and they'll see what they can do for a better deal. Of course no deals could be had. Price for a small 5x10 went from $36/month up to $55. Still not bad. Then a month or two later it went to $60. Then $75 (about) (or was it $80 something?), and finally a month or so ago I got yet another price increase notice shortly after the last one. Now they want $101/month for a small 5x10 storage unit. I tried contacting customer support before the price increase and was told they can't do anything except for those who are new clients. Of course as typical with big companies screwing the loyal customers. I went to open a new unit (going through online as it's convenient and I have no time for chit chat), but during the last checkout part where they ask for payment, they FORCE a lock on you. I have my own lock. I can bring my own lock. But during the checkout process they want me to buy theirs and if I don't need it, I can then ask for a refund at the office (not guaranteed to get the refund) or I could call up the office to finalize the new rental. So instead of making the lock an option (like they do with the insurance policy, whereas you can provide proof of your own), they force you to buy their lock and charge $20 for a lock that can be had for half the cost at any store. No thanks. I just canceled the reservation for the new unit, and I closed out my current unit. Not worth paying $100/month for small items in storage and not worth going through the hassle of renting a new unit and being forced to buy a lock when I don't need one and then returning it on my time. Talking about the units themselves. The place is great. I can't complain with a climate controlled unit. I just don't agree with how the company is increasing prices too much too soon and forcing items you may not need without the option of taking it off during a checkout process when renting a new unit.

3 months in and they sent a “rate change notice” and doubled my monthly rate. ***Response to the “owner” Your “market value rate increase” is significantly higher than the current rate advertised on your website. Seems to me that you have a business model where you attract a customer with a low ball rate and then once they move stuff into the unit you double the rate knowing they will likely take the abuse instead of move. 0/10 DO NOT RENT HERE. Liars and cheats. This seems to be their common practice, move you in at a fair rate and then extort higher rates once you move in.

My only issue is the elevators and hallways being pretty narrow and small. If the biggest room is nXn you'd think at least the elevators would be big enough to carry what could possibly fit into the room. It was a struggle Tetris-ing my bedroom set up the elevator and through the halls to my 10x10 on the second level. Other than that, I'm pleased with the space itself and the user friendly entering when coming to pick up/drop things off.

It’s definitely a place to store stuff. Nothing extraordinary. Slightly below ambient temperature in the hottest days of the year, so “climate controlled” is being used as a synonym for “indoors”. No freight elevator. You have a couch? Have fun hoofin’ it up the staircase or dismantling it in their broom closet of an elevator. The elevator is THE biggest gripe of everyone I’ve talked to. Staff is nice though! Probably the best thing about the place.

The facility is clean and the staff communicated well when I first got the locker. The was November 2021 with a 10x5 was around $55-$60 with taxes. It is now May 2022 and my card was just billed $95. Prices have gone up twice in the 5 months there. I decided to check the web rates again. Same locker is $70. I understand the promotional pricing but will be searching for another storage location.

The only redeeming quality of this place, is that its clean/local. However, the rates increased substantially, in our case it was a 62.6% increase for a 10x10.(77/month to $123/month. When asked why the reason for an increase and why so substantial, BOB had no answer. We were not notified of the increase until we saw our bill and they said they had mailed, but could not tell us the date. We recently moved over 2 months ago, had all mail forwarded but have yet to receive ANY correspondence. Coincidentally, we find it funny that we are asked to give 5 ?? Google reviews, and we are billed consistently. Yet they are unable to communicate a substantial increase in our bill. When asked if we could receive a credit we were told it could not happen now, the next billing cycle. We promptly found another storage unit that does not charge exorbitant prices. When we inquired after emptying our storage space, we were told that they could not give us that credit in our next statement since we are leaving. Again, we find it ironic that you can bill us but can't contact us nor credit us. AVOID THIS FACILITY AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YIU ENJOY BEING MISLEAD!!!

Do not rent from this facility. They advertise first month free but change the promotion terms. I had the unit for 2 weeks and they charged me for a whole month even though they have a sign outside the building that reads in large letters "first month free". They offer no prorated terms and will not work with you to keep you as a customer. Will easily find a different storage facility in the area and stay clear of extra space.

I required a storage space due to my father’s passing and the immediate sell of his house. I looked up Extra Space Storage new facility in Lake in the Hills as well as several others. With the free first month and deals they were running I decided to store at this new facility. At the time, there were other facilities closer to my parents home in Marengo that were reasonable, but the deal for 124 a month was enticing. It wasn’t long before I was getting charged $173 a month! I called to find out why the contract wasn’t honored and was told they can raise costs at anytime to make the unit prices comparable to prices around them. They said they had proof they sent me a postcard that my rates were going up, but never sent the proof. They told me I could move if I wasn’t happy, but I can’t lift and had to pay a mover to get into the unit. Ultimately, I have a year or more of this much higher cost until I can move this furniture into a home I am having renovated. It is bad business to agree on a rate then charge someone so much higher. I was very disappointed and won’t use them again after this.

Overall our move-in experience was very positive. Your staff is very helpful, the pricing is competitive, and the storage facility is clean and convenient. My only issue is the size of the elevators. Our unit is on the second floor, and we were unable to fit a 90" couch into the elevator as they are way too small. You need to have freight elevators which these are not. Carrying up the stairs larger pieces of furniture was not an option for us so due to the small size of your elevators, we could not put some pieces of our furniture into our storage unit.

This was a great experience for my family and I. One thing that was somewhat awkward in the beginning was the constant want for a review on Google. I asked them to stop asking and would give them a thorough review after my stay and to not ask me again about the filling out the review. As soon as I asked they stopped. Upon looking for a unit to rent, this was by far the best deal, and the cleanest facility. We were walked through the steps of what it meant to rent space and the benefits of having the extra coverage each month. The extra coverage was reasonable and covered our materials in the unit. The loading space is wonderful, heated in the Winters and kept cool in the Summer. They were upfront about the rate hike that would occur after about 6 months of rental so that it would not be a surprise when we got the notice in the mail. The online features were great the whole time of rental. If we ever need extra space or storage in the future, we will be returning customers.

Great place to use for storage. The building is new and very clean. The staff here are extremely nice and always helpful. I got a storage space here when I downsized to move downtown. Have had a great experience so far. The space is very clean and well-kept. They have a garage to pull your moving truck into with carts to use to move your stuff, which is very convenient. The manager, Bridget, was super friendly and helpful.

This storage facility is awesome, so convenient, especially with the cold weather, to have the indoor drive through to unload without wind or snow. Also the staff is wonderful, and available to help with things that come up. Bridget, even helped me when my key broke in my lock—she knew just what to do, and how to remove the broken lock. Our experience at the LITH Extra Space Storage facility has been excellent and we would highly recommend them. Their associates are friendly and very helpful. Both Dennis on our first visit and Bridget on our second visit, when we reserved our unit, were very patient and took all the time we needed to walk around the facility and show us each size unit so that we could determine what size unit would best fit our needs. They answered all of our many questions and explained the process in detail. The facility is very clean and access is easy, including garage access so that loading and unloading can be done inside and out of the elements. There is an elevator if your unit is on the second floor and they also provide flat bed roller carts for your use, making it easy to get your belongings from the garage to your unit. I might add that both visits were near office closing time but they never made us feel rushed, they were glad to help in any way they could…again, we would highly recommend this facility!

I never write reviews, let alone negative ones, but I feel this is entirely warranted. I rented a unit there and at the time I signed up / moved in I specifically asked the woman who helped me if I needed to provide an advanced notice of vacating the unit. I told was "No, you can let us know that day / the day you move out but we don't prorate your bill for partial month, rentals are month to month and you are charged for the entire month. I vacated my unit on a Sunday when the office was closed. I sent an email and left a voice that I vacated my unit. The next day (a Monday) someone called to confirm they received my notice that I vacated the unit. I specifically asked the woman who called, "I will not be charged for October, correct?" to which she answered, "No.". In reviewing my checking account yesterday because it was off, I noticed the $87 charge for the storage unit for the next month. I just called the location where I had the unit and was now told that I was supposed to give a 10 day NOTICE of vacating the unit. This completely contradicts what I was told on two separate occasions. The woman on the phone today was extremely abrupt and told me I should have read the lease that was emailed to me and there was nothing she could do, that's their "policy." I am extremely disappointed by the poor / incorrect communication relayed to me. Certainly if I knew I had to give a 10 day notice, to avoid having to pay $87 when I had vacated the unit, I would have done so! It's unfortunate this experience turned so negative. The place was clean and new but if I ever should need a storage unit again I will not be returning there nor will I recommend it to anyone since the workers do not even know their policy correctly to advise customers!

Dennis was great! His location is off Lakewood Dr and Algonquin Rd. He was very welcoming and helpful. He told us the first month is free. You will have to pay the start up fee that’s a one time fee and if you get insurance with them that as well. What’s great about this storage space is you can unload in rain or shine. The carts are right there to help you move whether you are on the first floor or need to take the elevator to the second. The place is very clean. I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a storage unit.

Mary was amazing at the Round Lake location, she met me at the store before opening hours; as she is currently working at another location. I was in and out of there in 30 minutes or less and what an easy process it was. I really didn't know what size unit I needed but she sure did. Excellent accessibility and plenty of Thru ways to get to your unit. Very clean . All garage doors are on timers you can set as needed. Excellent for semi truck access . And bathrooms are clean. This was our first time looking into renting a storage unit. The ease of online chat made the process go very smoothly for us. The assistant manager Dennis was very welcoming and friendly when we visited, and he explained everything in detail. The facility is very clean, spacious and is in a great location. The Lake in the Hills location is the best. Dennis is great with customers! Update: Continue to be impressed by the customer service provided by this facility. When the staff were doing their routine checks they noticed some water in an empty lot next to mine. They notified me immediately and offered me a larger space for the inconvenience of moving my things. The staff had mentioned they would be willing to assist so we planned on doing it the next day. Lo and behold when my wife came back the next day everything had been moved for us! (I of course had given permission for this to occur but I didn't think they'd do it all for us!) Really a place that goes out of their way to help you out. Would definitely recommend.
