I am writing to report a serious issue with the keypads used to access the storage building. They have been broken, with signs hanging off them, for the past three weeks. As a customer who pays a significant amount for storage, this is unacceptable. We have attempted to access our unit on four separate occasions but have been unable to do so due to the malfunctioning keypads. To make matters worse, when we called the customer service number for assistance, we were asked if we were interested in renting another unit. Upon declining, the representative hung up on us.

I would not go back. They like to give you deals move in only to end up raising your rates within 4 months of being there. Also the building we left was not secure and did not have good climate control ended up with mold on items in the unit.

While the storage units are convenient, they are overly expensive and you don’t get to pick which one you can have and the put you far away when there are units close by. I will not recommend or use their storage space again in the future

The staff was nice so this is not their fault. The cubes are way overpriced. I am going to move my articles after one month because I’m not gonna pay $400 almost $500 a month for two storage areas where I can pay half the cost and get it climate controlled. The bad part about it all is that they give you 40% off as beginning and then they screw you on If you need other units or on the price. The promotion is just for one month apparently and then you go from paying $60 or somewhere in that amount to paying over $200 a month. That’s scamming.

The storage units are very nice and clean. They have a trolly you can use and the elevators are pretty big. It was easy setting up online and I love the company. However, I had called to ask about how I can cancel my unit because I no longer needed and a lady named Suzanne answered. I’m sure she had good intentions but she was very put out that I would ask about this, almost like I should already know. But if I knew I wouldn’t be calling to ask right? She then told me to take my lock and leave my storage until open and that’s how they know I’m done with my unit. Well I did just that and a day later she calls and leaves a voicemail telling me I’m going to be charged since I didn’t take the lock out of my unit. I immediately called her back and told her I have my lock right next to me so I am confused on what she is talking about. She then says “oh okay, i’ll cancel your unit then” and then hangs up the phone. I’m very annoyed about this only because my heart sank when I heard the voicemail and I automatically assumed I was being charged for the wrong unit. I like the company so I’m definitely going to be coming back next year, I will just make sure not to talk to customer service.

I was told that I “locked in” my rate when I left the country for a few months. I return to find out that my rent almost doubled while I was gone, and instead of calling or emailing me, I received a letter to my mom’s house saying that my rent was increasing. When I went in to ask about it, they gave me no reason as to why it increased, regardless of being told that the price was locked in. I was also charged for an entire month the day I moved out and when I asked for a refund I was told there was nothing they could do about it on their end. I had the furthest unit possible and somehow I went from paying $55 a month to almost $200. Overall, the customer service was terrible and I was consistently met with no answers and no sympathy towards the situation.

A Scam. I am greatly disappointed and frustrated at the corporate customer service of this company. My boyfriend and I reserved a unit on June 24th under the 4th of July Sale (sign on fee, first month free then 40% off) We were sent an email confirmation stating the total price at time of move in - by July 20th. We deliberately asked if the promo would be held until we needed the unit and were assured that it would as long as we signed the lease prior to July 20th (The end of our reservation timeframe). We went in to sign on July 16th and were told that the promo had expired despite having email confirmation. Not only that but they had increased the prices as well. We went from needing to pay $30 to $250 for one month of access. Along with this it was too short notice to change location as we needed to move into the unit in a few days. It would have been cheaper had we paid for the two months under the promo than one month of what we did pay but once again we were assured signing under the reservation period would allow us the promo price. Despite this, corporate has not honored what we were promised. I have been trying to get a refund for the last 2 weeks and so far we have not been called back, and the only people who tried to assist us were the online agents and the Store Manager. I would like to point out that the agents (Angel and Sabrina) were as helpful as they could be but it was out of their hands, and the current Ames Store manager also did all she could with the mess she was left with. This was a Corporate issue with not honoring not only the email confirmation of the reserved unit but also what was displayed on the website for the promo. I have attached some helpful images.

If I could do 0 stars I would. I am furious. I purchased a storage unit from you guys on Jun 30th. Everything about the process was complicated and not easy to follow and you STOLE my money!!! I was looking for a storage unit that could hold my items while I was going to be in between housing situations. I saw you had an amazing deal and wanted to take advantage of this. I filled out all the required forms with a move in date of JULY 28th! I didn't want to worry about the 60 some dollar fees I had to pay to move in so I decided to add my payment info to pay it now to get the stress over with. Not knowing this would just activate my storage unit to be accessed immediately. I do not need to move ANY of my things into the storage unit till JULY 28th and now I had to pay for the fees for a month I was not using it AND expected to pay the full price of 200 some dollars on JULY 30th! Why do I need to pay for the fees and everything for a whole month when I don't need it!!!! Talked to a very nice representative that said he would take this up to a higher level and totally understood my concerns and wanted to help. This man gave me the phone number of the Ames IA facility that I was trying to store things in. He said if I don't hear a call back about the issue that I would need to use this phone number to contact them. He was outstanding and very helpful. I wait a few days and hear nothing back so I called the number he gave me and was greeted with someone unwilling to help AT ALL. I told her my situation and she gave me no input about what they could do to try and help me. When I asked for a refund since I HAVE NOT MOVED ANYTHING INTO THE UNIT OR EVEN ACCESSED IT, they said they couldn't. Upset that they didn't want to do ANYTHING to help me I told them to move me out and hung up on them. Only AFTER I was upset did she say she could call people to see if she could get me a refund and in the end still couldn't do that. You took my 60 some dollars from me when I NEVER entered your facility. Gave me mixed information about when my move in date actually was since I didn't need to access it till JULY 28th and instead gave it to me ASAP and still expected me to pay on JULY 30th when I would have only used the facility for 2 DAYS!!! I NEED A REFUND!

It was easy to access when moving out of one apartment and storing for the summer before we could move our daughter into her new apartment. Clean and comfortable temps as both times we moved it was very warm outside. The only issues that we had, is there are not enough moving carts when it is busy, and that is just want happens, and the back elevator didn't work, and we had a unit all the way at the back of the building.

We have been renting a large CubeSmart unit in Ames for 15 months. Our rates have increased several times within this timeframe, probably by about 40-45%. One of the garage doors has been broken for at least the past year. It's almost impossible to get ahold of the manager and district manager when issues arise. Most recently, we were locked out of the building on the day we intended to move our things out. I'm not sure why we were removed from their system when our unit was paid through the next 2 weeks. Lastly, we have dried mold spots all over our furniture and we need to find a way to clean it prior to using them in our new house. Very disappointing experience!

Worst storage unit I've ever had. Over the last year my total bill has increased by 45%!!!! And for what, you may ask? Has the service improved? Absolutely not. There are two garage doors that service all the units, one of them has remained inoperable for at least the last six months, more likely eight months. The units are "climate controlled" for temperature, but during the summer months it is extremely humid inside. So humid that anything made of cloth that I had stored was covered in mildew. And not just a little bit. Anything metal got rusty. That should not happen in a "climate controlled" unit. They may get you in the door with a decent introductory rate, but they'll increase the price on you every three months. It's not climate controlled, and there's only ONE garage door to service hundreds of units. Give me a break. Please save yourself the time, money, and heartache. This is NOT the place to rent from.

He quickly and easily answered all of our questions and got us going. Then, as we were loading our unit, we realized that we needed a bigger unit. Came in the next day, and Dustin showed us our options and got us set up. Climate controled units, clean, highly recommended. The only thing that I would like to see for improvement is 24 hour access.

This is my first time renting a storage unit and I am very happy I decided to go with them. I reserved a unit online and got a call within minutes of what the process is and to confirm the reservation. I did the online registration to sign everything and pay and it was a very smooth process. ISU Parent, renting a unit for the summer. Facility is clean and seems well maintained. Customer service has been excellent. Dealing with the manager Dustin has made this a simple choice. Corrugated metal as walls means less chance of damage to stored items. Pricing is very fair and security system looks great.

Recently reserved a unit at this location. Nice new facility and the managers (Theresa and Dustin) made the move in really easy. As I was leaving it was nice to see Dustin walking the perimeter of the parking lot picking up trash which show they really care about the appearance of the facility. In my experience this is quite often neglected.

We have moved to a new storage unit! CubeSmart is new to the area. My DD is only the 16th renter to the new facility. She FaceTimed me as she was unloading her items and I am impressed! They have contactless registration online. They have 24 hr surveillance. Each renter has their own code to access the gate, building and elevator. They have moving carts available to help unload your items. When I called their customer service for a quick question, they were extremely helpful. Important to note, their website is very user-friendly. I literally reserved it online and had a response in just a couple minutes with further instructions. Within 5 minutes of submitting and finalizing our contract, they had emailed me with the information to get into the unit! Hopefully this helps anyone looking for a location.
