My recent visit to CubeSmart on East University in Des Moines left me with mixed feelings.( Which I visit often because I have unit with my sister.) anywho the facility offers a range of storage units and amenities, there are areas that could use significant improvement. Firstly, the maintenance of the facility could be better. With its large size, it's clear that the workload is too much for just one or two people to handle. Hiring additional staff for cleaning and upkeep could greatly enhance the overall appearance and functionality of the facility. On a positive note, I must commend Kayla and Candice for their exceptional service. They are dedicated to their jobs and are actively working towards improving the facility. Their professionalism and efforts are truly appreciated. However, one aspect that concerns me is the lack of security measures, especially considering the location of the facility. With a noticeable presence of homeless individuals and those struggling with addiction renting units, it's crucial to implement some form of security to ensure the safety of all customers and their belongings. In conclusion, while CubeSmart on East University has its strengths, such as excellent staff members like Kayla and Candice, there are significant areas for improvement. Enhancing maintenance, particularly through additional staff, and implementing better security measures are essential steps towards creating a safer and more welcoming environment for all customers.

i just would like to say , i didn't like the way i was treated at cub smart , i work on electronics and was in my storage unit trying to fix some boards i a receiver i was fixing , and i sat down to work on them and i accidentally fell asleep for a few mins , i was very tired for working alot of hours that week and i was woke up by the manger saying i cant live in these units , i apologized for falling asleep but she insisted i was living in it , i told her i had a home , but she was rued and made me give up my unit and have to leave when alls i was doing was working on a few things and fell asleep, i just thought that was pretty judgmental of her thinking that when she had no clue of what i was doing or that it was cause i was so tired , and thinking i lived in that unit when i have my own house bought and paid for . thats ny review of what i think of cubsmart . shouldnt judge until u no the facts . thank you for your time .

I’m torn on this place. Kayla was great during the rental process, and found me a more suitable unit than the original one I was shown. For the first month or so, things seemed good. Now, it’s evident that they either need more staff to maintain the place, or the ones who are there just aren’t doing their part. If it’s just one or two employees, that’s simply too large a task to expect of them. This facility is big. Just doing a ‘quick’ sweep would take the average person hours. I’ve seen the same garbage piled up in the loading dock area for over a week now. There are no garbage cans, nor dumpster access, so people throw things wherever they want. There is no accountability. The main loading dock/bay door has been broken for more than a week. This, based on other reviewers, is a repeat occurrence. The aisles of this facility are filthy, with food debris and residue from liquid spills remaining on the floors indefinitely, which is highly likely to attract vermin. The facility is well lit in the aisles and common areas, but none of the units I was shown have even remotely adequate light to ensure a reasonable level of sight and safety. The facility does provide 2 flatbed carts for customers to use, but they are rarely put back in the cart area when people finish with them, and that means others have to go on a wild goose chase through the winding aisles of the place to try to find one of the carts. This facility is too new to have all these issues. Either someone is far too overworked , or someone isn’t doing their job, or maybe even both. Whatever the case, i woukd definitekt think twice before renting from this facility.

There’s people living in the units and I was up to date on my payment and my locks were changed and when I went in and figured that out the office was open but the worker wasn’t there they apparently didn’t show up that day for work so I sat and waited for over a half hour for someone to come and put my lock back on I would not recommend using this storage

The worst,dirtiest, units getting broke into,I helped out mainly so I could stay late to guard my unit My friends unit just gotten broken into.one garage door hasn't worked for 5 months.the other one gets stuck and won't shut. I cleaned bathroom several times out by the dumpster looked like a dump site. I cleaned that multiple times. I even thought I'd be a gentleman and clean up human waste on floor. What thanks did I get? The manager actually tape recorded me and then played it for the other employees.oh, did I mention.I am a customer. Never received a dime,a thank you, nothing. Do not rent at this place! I forgot to mention the district manager coming to my unit. What is with these people.This is my property,not yours,I'll be there as many times in the day as I want after all it's my stuff! I have an internet based business so I am needing access. The District Manager asked me "How I got in building? I said "well I don't know about you but I usually use a door!" Seriously ? I almost told her I flew in by helicopter and repelled my way down and crawled through the ventilation shaft directly to my unit They treat us bad and I've literally heard the manager make fun of east siders. I asked district manager to call me. She never did ! I would think a company like cubesmart would reach out or I should send them a bill for doing their employees jobs that they were too lazy to do. Raises rent consistently. Does not answer phones. Doors always broke. Homesless always in hallways. Signing up they tell you one thing then charge you all these fees. General manager is absolutely no help. People always say they will call you back and they dont. Employees are undertrained and make promises they cant keep. General manager just says well she shouldny have told you that. i have never had such a iterating experience before in my life. The last several months have been a lot of unneeded stress. Spend the extra 40 dollars and go someone local. Cube smart will just raise your rent in a couple days anyway.

Whoever is giving this place more than one star, is either 1.lying 2.have been asked to give a good review 3. Used storage when it first opened. I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! I VERY RARELY give bad reviews but people NEED to know that this is not a place you want to bring your belongings. The entire vibe is bad. I felt very unsafe the entire time. There’s people who either live there or use the space as a hang out. The storage unit itself is poorly built. I could stand on a chair and see everything in the units next to mine. Things definitely can easily be stolen if someone wanted to. This location needs new Management or something. There’s no security and very very few cameras. I’d definitely give my money elsewhere.

Someone was able to pull boxes from our 6ft dresser up and through the gap thats at the top of the units and steal from us. We found empty boxes tossed around. Place is also looking run down and nothing like the pictures, carts are almost never available. I do not recommend this place.

This place has gone down hill. Its always messy, trash all over all the time (inside and out), hallways are never swept, big doors never work, people smoking drugs and cigarettes inside storage rooms, supposed to be climate controlled, however it is always cold. Someone spilt something by my unit and now the door sticks to the floor. Hoping to move stuff out in a couple months.

Rented a large climate-controlled unit. It was broken into. It, the unit across and one next to it had door slider cut so that disc lock could be removed. More than half my parents’ furniture in the unit was stolen. Two more remaining pieces had water damage on tops. Cardboard boxes are brittle like the climate was not well-controlled.

There is a security safety. The lease says you can do what you need within the hours of operation. Being denied and having the cops called on us for being there while we have a storage unit, breaks any kind of happiness and security. Manager Rhonda... Rhonda has helped me through the entire process and taught me all I need to know about renting a unit. I appreciate all the help. I love that this is climate controlled, supplies is optional to buy in the office, carts are provided, ;there is locking garage doors to come in through that creates extra security to the building Also, I love that we can drive right up to the elevator and get right to our unit with no awkward turns Finally, we can fit our sectional couch into the elevator on 2 carts, and we don't have to worry about our things being damaged or getting unwanted pests. *** The only problem we had was the unit was not cleaned completely as there was a oil spill on the floor (not cleaned up) before we got the unit and there is no lighting inside our unit so when I walked through the first time in a rush I never noticed it until I came back the 2nd time and stepped in it.

Decided to leave a review since we’ve had bad experiences with storage units in the past! My boyfriend and I needed to find a nice indoor, convenient facility. This was it! As we walked in Ashley was very kind and answered all our questions. Another woman, Rhonda, walked us to our cube to show us what the environment was like. She was polite and quick to help us as well. The loading docks are a nice touch - never had a storage with those before. The temperature is perfect (we store clothing for our business) so nothing is damp. Would recommend this one! :)

Both employees go above and beyond. Love talking to Ronni. She always smiles waves. I seen her take 20 minutes out of her time talking to another gentleman who allowed the other gentleman to interrupt and answer all the man's questions gave the gentleman a card phone numbers. She worked both gentleman around the whole facility still answering questions. Both employees have never been cross upset or in any kind of bad mood. Very pleasant. I recommend it to anybody who wants to keep their stuff safe.
