Company's policy does not provide for pro-ration. I only had the unit day but charged an entire month. Couldn't terminate on Monday because company is closed on Mondays. Terminated on Tuesday and no pro-ration given. This is an unfair business practice.

The staff is welcoming and helpful. I had originally reserved a 10x10x5. When I got there I was shown 3 different sizes and actually needed a smaller one. Them being climate control also helps because I now that nothing will get damaged due to temperature.

Allison is an individual who knows here job and respects the people she contacts. I witnessed her assist a customer with physical limitations and of an advanced age get items from her unit to the front of the store and to her waiting transportation. She informed me of what she was doing so I understood she would be with me in the few minutes it took for her doing this kind and appreciated action. When she got with me on my transaction her explanations and calm demeanor helped me understand the reason for the extra charges for a late payment. Definitely an employee that handles herself well with the 2 situations I was witness to and part of!

When reserving a unit, they made sure to get us what we needed, the right size and the right price. Cancellation was a breeze once we were done and cleaned out the unit. Billing accurate and friendly employees. I love not having to give prior notice when you are not sure yourself when you would be moving out of the unit.

No one was at the office after I was told there would be there at 9:30 on Tuesday. Waited way over an hour until someone came and this is after I called Corporate. There was another customer there who already had a storage bin and was wanting to upgrade and wasn’t able to do thatbecause there was no one in the office when she finally did show. It was very chaotic and confusing. she was short and really took an attitude. Because there was no one in the office when she finally did show. I did finally get a storage unit and it does look clean And I like the Security, but the employee was not the one that sold me on it. It was the other patron who was there who was wanting to upgrade he really showed me more and explain more than she ever did very disappointed that they only give active duty people military discount. My husband served two tours in Vietnam once again, it’s as if his service didn’t matter everyone kept apologizing for the delay, but I don’t think there was any compensation for my time or my frustration in the matter

On Monday August 26th I went to make my monthly payment in the store and there was a Will Return clock on the door. So I leave and return at the time it has said in the clock well the time that the clock had said the first time was changed to 45 minutes later. Ok I got a little frustrated but left to run an errand and again returned to the facility at the time the clock had said to come back. This was the third time I returned that day and again the time of the clock had changed. By this time I was pissed off and was like I'm not doing this again so the next day I had called the facility and talked to John and made my payment over the phone and explained to him my frustration the day before. He apologized and took my payment he was very nice and was understanding of my frustration. John is very nice and I like having him work there. I've never had any problems with John and I think he makes a good asset of being there! Keep him around because there have been a lot of new faces in that building and he is the one whose been the most pleasant. :)

I went there a few weeks ago and reserved a unit after they showed me several units. Yesterday I went in and finalized everything. Staff was nice, friendly and good customer care. I even got on the special that your first month is free. And I asked what happens if I don’t need the second month and he said then you got a month free. I would recommend cube smart.

This location keeps the entire neighborhood up at night with alarms sounding ALL NIGHT. If you call corporate when this happens they don't care. The regional, Becky, has not once returned a phone call in 3 months. What a great representation of the company, Becky! I have been trying for 3 days to get some help to reserve a storage unit. I tried to fill out the form on line which is a joke. When I called to let them know it wasn't taking my state ID, it was suggested to for me to take a picture. I tried to take a picture , there was no way to take it. So, I had called back, she didn't know what to and gave me another,that person passed me off to another number. And guess what, it was either busy or it rang and rang. This company's workers are either too lazy to help me out or don't want to. They would rather play pass around the client . I don't have much of a choice, since I need to his unit for just four days, which I have to pay for an additional month after paying around $67.. That around $134 for only four days of usage. I wonder if that is the problem why I can't get any help. I just hope they will have a storage unit on Saturday. Because, I did get a message, a reservation is good. All I want to pay for a storage unit on line so I know I will have it on Saturday.

Had a little bit of trouble with the access code because it wasn’t in the system several hours after filling out the lease agreement and paying, however, the customer service was excellent and they gave me an emergency code for the access so we were able to get in and unload the moving van. Also, the unit that I was told would fit my furniture etc. to be the size of one car garage was not big enough by any means so I had to rent an extra unit and the only one available was inside. That was a little disappointing because now my rent is double, however I am grateful to have had somebody able to figure that out for me.

The only reason for 2 stars is the indoor temperature control. The last manager was GREAT. The new, no where near. PR sucks. Cleanliness is lacking. Professionalism? AWOL. The corporate response to complaints is unacceptable. The generic number is an outsourced call center - Philippines? When the drive-in door breaks (often), the manager can still open it to park his car inside, but is too lazy to open it for paying customers.

We had a negative experience with this AFS storage place today. We bid on a storage unit that had a hidden view of a car. We were bidding high and someone else was in a bidding war with us. After we won the bid a very high bid, we got an email saying the sale was cancelled because the owner had miraculously came in and paid the past due amount for this unit. Then in talking with the lady working there ( Tammy). The car was not a part of the unit, even though it was in the picture. She had included a picture of the car, amongst the belongings in the unit. We had called and someone stated that everything in the pictures posted are a part of the unit, and that the car ran.Supposedly the car was from someone else's unit. Who stores their stuff amongst other people's stored stuff? We just felt there was something shady going on with the unit, since the bidding was going pretty high for just boxes and a freezer etc. Then when we won the bid from the bidding war, the tenant miraculously appears to pay the storage center for the balance owed on the unit. It just didn't sit right in our mind. #negativeexperience

UPDATE: Corporate concern for issues is non-existent. New manager is unprofessional, inept & lazy. Allegedly local phone number is outsourced to the Philippines. Really gone downhill since previous manager left. Previous manager was friendly, professional, available until 6 p.m. New guy locks the door at 2 p.m.! Disgusting lack of respect for customers by corporate. OLD REVIEW: My 2nd time here because I LOVE THIS PLACE! The manager is great. The facility is clean. The prices are reasonable. Update: look for a locally owned business. This business has changed since we started renting. New name and new price hikes and no longer has the same value. No obvious reason to hike the price $50 in less than 2 years. The price gouging has made an appearance here with no notice. Just received a price increase notice of less than a month. Not as clean. No carts available. Now the building is inaccessible. So what I wrote below no longer applies. I am so disappointed. Original review: I’m extremely happy with my storage unit and the care of the facility. The customer service and attention to detail is excellent. I have easy access to my stuff and I feel safe. The fact that I can pay from my bank account automatically is a wonderful feature. The whole experience has been well worth the time and money.

The manager at the Topeka location was very patient, thorough, personable and professional when helping me get a storage unit assigned. I was very appreciative when he gave me a couple of options as to which unit location I wanted. He explained to me the benefits of each unit he offered to me. Other storage unit companies I've used in the past just assign any storage unit to you (only taking the size into consideration). But not at Affordable Family Storage, they put a lot of effort into meeting all your needs. Plus, the manager is always willing to help no matter how busy he is or what the issue is. Great Service!!! This has always been a great place for storage. However if there long I miss no restroom facilities. Also I know it’s been pretty hot but today was there for about 45 minutes. Had to leave because it was so hot in there. No air movement at all. Almost got sick from the heat inside. I understand the place can’t be as cool or warm as our house but it was way over a reasonable temperature inside. Will need to go back another time to finish what I was working on.

I’ve only been a customer for a week. I have no complaints with my unit. I am a little concerned about communication. I tried to reserve my unit online, but it wouldn’t go through. I tried from multiple devices on different days. I then called and left messages. No one called me back. After 3 tries, I was finally able to speak with someone and reserve my unit. On move in day, it took 5 tries before I got through on the phone. The check in process was smooth over the phone, but I wish I had been sent a map of the complex so that it was easier to find my unit when I arrived.

Our family has only needed storage twice so this time we went with an indoor, climate controlled facility. We're so glad we chose Affordable Family Storage! Very helpful, friendly staff, and clean. I still rent a small unit here. It is very clean and nice. But no one answers the phone or returns calls. I have left over 8 messages in one month. I entered into a contract that I would have 24 hour access to my unit. They no longer do this and I never received a call or email telling me this. Also, my rate has increased 3 times in less than a year. They need to learn how to return calls. What good is an answering service if you don't call your current customers back. Mark was awesome, we had talked to several different storages places and they were not able to help with our specific needs. We have a 28’ semi trailer being dropped off and the other places would not allow the trailer to be left overnight. Mark was able to accommodate our needs and was very pleasant. We would definitely recommend this facility!

Easy to work the online process. Would like a direct line to the local office provided with the email confirmation. They are working on the climate control. Humidity level has been a bit high. Hence the 4star. Love the ability to drive into the building to load and unload. Mike and Mark are pleasant and are kind to explain any details I had questions about. They are also attentive to the units and making sure they are secure. Thank you.

Great service at great price! Not only the storage is located inside climate controlled facility, but it allows your vehicle to go inside too. That way, we can load and unload our belongings comfortably.

I have rented 3 storage lockers with 2 different people behind the counter. Both people have been extremely helpful and efficient. The storage lockers are clean and ready to move in, which has not been the case at other places in the past.

I have used affordable family storage for about 4 months now and I just got an email informing me my rates will go from the promised $35 to $57.50. This is an absolutely ridiculous increase! I will be moving my things out by the end on the month. I do not recommend this place to anyone else.

Affordable Family Storage is a clean, climate controlled facility. I normally deal with Mike at the front desk. He was very helpful explaining how the facility works. I needed a larger storage unit later on and he was able to make the change without a problem. Secure facility, reasonable prices convenient access.

Gentleman was kind friendly and helpful I had purchase a unit 2 months ago and my mother needed a unit today he was respectful I had left my unit my mom I left my unit unlocked and he was diligent enough to check the units as he comes through and informed me that my unit wasn't fully locked she didn't slide the Glide all the way over he was kind enough to call me and let me know of the situation I properly remedy the situation and my mom was impressed by his know-how and knowledge of the place that she got to unit for herself

My husband, Duane, and I have utilized quite a number of storage facilities in the past. We both agree that Mike with Affordable Family Storage is by far the most outstanding employee there. He was very congenial yet professional. We were in an emergency situation with a basement flood and he made it so much less stressful. His customer service was the real deal. His wonderful personality shined through and we are very thankful he was there for us. I would give this man a 100% rating! Way to go Affordable Family Storage for hiring such a splendiferous man.

Willow I am sorry about your poor experience even though you’re not a client and have never rented from affordable family storage I try my best to make everybody’s experience hear a good one. However we have a lot of cameras and we catch a couple people from time to time doing things you’re not supposed to and that’s why they are not allowed back here again and that’s why they were arrested and that’s why they will never come back into this facility again thank you very much and have a nice day.

EDIT: After I no longer needed my unit, I missed the beat and forgot to cancel my contract before autopay deducted the total. Ben, who is extremly helpful, is wokring with me to go and get a refund and is extremely helpful. Overall I am extremely happy with this comppany, and if I ever need a storage unit in Topeka I will use them again and again, you should too.
