Something should be done regarding predatory storage units that reevaluate the pricing of the storage unit at any given time. They stated they reevaluate pricing 3-6 months after occupancy. I started my storage in July 2024 for $117 per month, now In December 2024 they have increased my storage to $151. When asked if I can speak with someone regarding this increase I was told no as this is their standard practice and storage should be temporary and that it may be time to downgrade or find another storage facility. I say this is predatory because they are aware of patrons limited options with moving all of their items from storage to another unit. It’s tiresome and frustrating but overall a bad business practice. Avoid if you can - although it seems like they all participate in this bait and switch practice.

A so called manager (Destiny) at the Exterior St. location was rude enough to cause me to cancel my storage and find a much better storage( Prime Storage) which, by the way, have employees that are amazing!!!

Had a storage unit there since the pandemic and renting a spot there had been ok until recently. I came and discovered my storage unit covered in mouse/rat poop after not visiting for 2 months. I was mortified as there had been no issues previously. There was no food in my unit and they had completely eaten a poison block that was in the corner of my unit since I got it. There were little colored poison block pieces everywhere with the poop. Didn't feel any lack of care for what had happened, they just asked if there was damage. When asked to move to a different unit, I was told I'd have to contact district manager. I was paying well over double the standard rate for a unit my size and now I have to disinfect my stuff. I just decided to move out before my next bill.

I’ve been a customer for two years, and my recent experiences have been extremely disappointing. Despite paying for a climate-controlled unit, I discovered there was no electricity on my floor, and apparently, there had been flooding.Some of my items were damp, and I even found mold on my clothes. I don’t visit often, I don't know how long this has been going on for. I reported this to the on-site staff and called customer service, but no one offered a solution nor was I credited for the additional fee I pay for climate control. I decided to downsize my unit and was offered a reduced rate over the phone. I asked for confirmation that the price would be honored since I’m a long-time customer, and I was assured it would be. However, when I arrived, the location refused to honor the offer. After contacting the representative who made the promise, he told me the store was in the wrong and that the regional manager would get in touch. I’m still waiting for that call. I’m beyond frustrated and can't wait to remove my belongings. I strongly advise against using this service.

Poorly run. Worst Cubesmart. Closes early, scraped hours off of glass doors so no one knows the correct time instead of posted hours. Rat infested with no possibility of coverage if your items are damaged. Website od often down Rude dissmissive and insensitive staff. Being a customer for years means nothing as they price gouge and arbitrarily raise rates. Raised prices with an addendum - then tells you to “take it up with corporate. Moved to another facility for half the price. Avoid this location like the plague. poorly managed.

Listen up! I made a huge mistake and canceled my reservation at this cube smart location to the public storage up the block. Huge mistake. When I did my check in I just didn’t feel the customer service. I quickly canceled my reservation and came back to the Cube Smart on exterior street. I was greeted by Richard who has impeccable customer service. Showed me different storage units and found me the best price. Made my dad who doesn’t speak English feel comfortable as well. Put your money where people treat you well. The storage unit was clean, was the size I needed and Richard walked me through the lease. Felt so at ease. Will never look for another storage place anywhere else again.

Pros: they are relatively affordable and the facilities are clean and well enough maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful enough. Cons: They continually change the closing hours—making them earlier and earlier with little to no warning. And the hours listed online are a lie. They actually lock their doors 30 minutes before they technically ‘close’. So if you need something out of your unit right before they close you will be S.O.L. Closing at 6pm means the doors are locked by 5:30. For anyone that works a 9-5 job anywhere outside of the immediate area, good luck ever getting into your unit after work. I will be taking my belongings and my business elsewhere.

I will not recommend this spot. Staff supervisor was very rude about everything. My storage unit got broken into. They pop my lock and stole my safe out of it with all my important information inside. Then called weeks later saying they just found my unit open. But when we got there it was closed. They allow anyone to just walk up to any unit and don’t ask questions when your suppose to check in at the front desk. At the same time another lady got her unit broken into as well and they stole money.

If they weren't the closest storage to where I live, I wouldn't even use them. Most of the staff is rude, they raise the rates without notice, and they don't provide any steps,ladders, etc... for people to access the top units. You have to climb into your unit. I dont recommend this particular building to anyone.

I had over 8 rooms here in this location since 2021 until this year with new DM he raises prices on every room 150 to 250 every 3 months. We were loyal customers for 4 years even when the place was robbed 4 times in 1 month we stood by them i wached the facility 2 nights when they were short of staff . and when the place was infested with hundreds of mice we used to carry dead mice and throw them outside from the first floor. We dealt with the smell od dead rats for 3 months beforethey could evacuate that infested room . I am leaving room after room because of the crazy pricing increase every 3 months and this year i should be out of there and all cubesmart business. I would never store at cubesmart and i do not recommend anyone to do so.

Update: The facility is clean but they keep raising the rent every 6 months and the $5 fee to pay online is ludicrous. I cannot get to a facility every month to pay in person. It is unjustly expensive Once again, my rent has been raised another $45. I have a 5x10 space and it's about to coat me $300/mo for the space. What's worse is that my insurance is only $2k, meanwhile that wouldn't cover 3 of the items I have in storage. This raising is getting out of hand. If you're gonna raise the rent then you need to make the hours longer or earlier at minimum

I had a great experience at CubeSmart and if all things remain the same or improve, I'd love to be a return customer. I paid for a small unit in the CubeSmart location at 255 Exterior Street for 10mths. I researched storage options all over NYC in 2021 and ultimately picked CubeSmart because it was the most affordable option. During my time as a customer, I found that the staff was extremely helpful, the facility was well-maintained, and I felt that my belongings were safe. I do wish that operating hours terminated a little later (maybe 8pm instead of 7pm), but I do understand how an earlier closing time contributes to lower operating expenses. Special shout-out to Richard and Ty—two professional staff members who went above and beyond for me and were always down for a chat and laugh. Thank you!

From the moment I walked in Richard was there to greet me and spent time with me as he walked me through the units I inquired about. I went ahead and rented out a unit at this location, but needed to get setup with a moving truck. Unfortunately I didn’t have the same pleasant experience like the other people stated in their reviews. I was greeted by a guy name Brandon, I spoke to him about what I needed and all of a sudden we got disconnected. So I went ahead and called back and was greeted again, I stated that we just spoke and I wasn’t sure if we got disconnected, he replied “yeah what’s up” the last time I remembered was I was a Paying customer and before ending a conversation how about asking “is there anything else I can help you with”. I was highly disappointed with his customer service. This is my first time renting a unit and wanted to know what else to expect. I expected more professionalism and respect. With that being said I wish I would’ve known this is what I was going to deal with before renting online. Not a pleasant experience. On the other hand I’ve received better service with the 800 number for cube smart.

The storage facility was extremely clean and well-maintained. I stored for 6 months and have absolutely no complaints. Moving my items into the storage unit (1BDR apt) was simple and effective. Similar during move-out, with some minor complications that was of no fault to CubeSmart per se (e.g., freight elevator not working, so had to make more trips from unit to U-Haul truck than preferred). My unit was exactly as I'd left it and none of the items were ruined due to temperature issues. There was no weird smell or sign of bugs or insects in or around my unit or the entire facility. Miguel Archibald made check-out a breeze and was very personable and provided excellent customer service. I highly recommend this facility!

CubeSmart Is A Life Saver! My wife and I have decided to sell our property in New York and relocate to Arizona. As some of you may well know, selling and buying a house can be quite stressful! After reading reviews of at least twenty different moving companies all with nightmare stories we decided it was best to just downsize what we have, take our most precious belongings and rent a Uhaul. Lord knows I don’t want to drive to Arizona, but we couldn’t find not one moving company without horrible reviews. We are closing on the sale of our house as soon as next week so we need to get all of our furniture out the house ASAP before the buyer does her final walk through. So I go to Uhaul to price a rental truck and get a storage unit. Another potential nightmare! Long story short they couldn’t help me. I asked her if there was any other Uhaul facilities in the area that I could go to. Again she did not know. A customer overhead my question and said there was another Uhaul on 138th near the Buckner. She told me it was bigger than the one we were at and I might find something there. I said thank you and put the address in google maps and started to follow the blue line. As I was walking I saw a sign that said CubeSmart and figured I’d try my luck there along the way. I walked inside and there was no line. I asked the CubeSmart representative if they had any 10’by 10’ storage units available and he said yes we do. Relived, I just started venting and explaining my situation. Miguel listened carefully. He asked me if I had $60 dollars. I said yes. He said I could book the unit today and have it for the month. I asked him how much more would I have to pay. He said that was it as long as I was out by March 6th. I couldn’t believe it. Another guy named Richard asked me for my ID and went in on the computer. He then took me to the storage unit on the ground floor to make sure it was satisfactory. Once I agreed he took me back to the front. He then asked me for my credit card and gave it back to me with a lock for my unit and a pamphlet with an access code for the gate. We then walked outside and he showed me how to use the code. I had my unit, good service and a piece of mind at a fraction of the cost. CubeSmart is exactly that. Cube smart. Who knew!

Customer Service is okay. I wish the storage unit had extended hours. After being in the storage unit for 5 months CubeSmart tried to raise my 8x10 unit $35. After speaking with the supervisor they discovered the increase should have been $17-$18. I moved out one day after the new billing cycle and I was charged for the entire new month. Also, I had to remove my lock to officially move out; make sure you do this or they will keep charging you.

When I moved back to the United States, I accumulated a bunch of clothes and shoes that I could not store at home. I originally planned on going to another storage facility down the street from this location because they were what popped up online. However when I arrived with my stuff, it was close to closing and rather than go above and beyond, they asked me to come back the next day. When I went to CS, Veronica was very friendly and helped me check in that day. She even gave me an extra 20 minutes when I got there to put things in my storage as she knew I needed the extra time. I didn't even ask. She just did it because she understood that I might need it. I am happy with the service that she provided and I wish she were staying. Fantastic job so far!!

This was so great! Veronica is INCREDIBLE! She is the manager and did everything to make our move go as smoothly as possible. Although we had issues with Super Move (a separate company but Cube Smart offers with them for a free driver and free truck for 2 hrs within 8 miles of moving locations.) CubeSmart was always there to help with everything. I recommend cube smart but I do NOT recommend super move. Spend the extra $50 to get a UHaul and save yourself sooooo much time.

I only used my cube for 2 days before moving to a bigger cube in the same building. They would not give me a pro-rated refund even though the their cubes get rented out quite frequently. In addition, the entry doors did not work correctly and my personal entry code never worked so I had to get a random code from the manager. Also, this location is difficult to use since it is right at the intersection of a major road and a bridge entrance. Next time I need storage I would choose a different location and more likely, a different company.

The only issue I have so far is... I pay late often, due to other bills that take priority (rent, light, etc) and I'm ok with the late fee. What annoys me is everytime I pay (late), I can go 2-3 weeks after my payment and the (late payment) lock they put on is still there. Then I have to go all the way back to reception to get someone to remove it. The lock goes on quick when your late, but no where near as fast removed after payment. Same energy should be given for both situations. Other than that, good money.

I like the Security going in the storage area, and In order to get to your floor you must put your code in to make it move yes the elevator has a Security as well. Staff was very helpful and courteous and the space is clean, organized and easy to get to. Could use a few improvements (faster lease signing online, ability to change credit cards online, more carts, wider doors). If you do sign up bring your own lock when singing the lease or they’ll try to sell you a lock for $20. Also they require renters or home owners insurance to cover off site premises or you’ll be upsold on that too. UPDATE after a little over a year of using them: The storage facility is well kept and well conveniently located and the staff is helpful, however I did not appreciate the un-announced rate increase. Yes they sent me a postcard in the mail a month before or so but no emails or phone calls and those post cards get lost in the spam mail... Aside from the notification of the rent increase, their policy of being able to increase the rent AT ANY TIME AND BY ANY AMOUNT is unacceptable! I should have read the fine print more closely, because I expected an increase after a couple of years, but not so soon and not in the middle of a year. Imagine if your landlord had that power over your lease! Plus the fact that you increased the rent during a worldwide pandemic is really a bad choice on their part so I took my business elsewhere.

This location was a bit daunting to get to, because of the traffic flow, but it is well worth going there. I make a mess of my online reservations which required a physical visit to the location that I was interested it. Once there, I meet the most amazing people. Nisha Hudgins immediately addressed my issues and provided a tour of my now chosen location. The staff are incredibly helpful. Each time I have gone there the staff have been so friendly and thoughtful. I cut my hand enough to need stitches while moving things and they immediately jumped to help me. While I wish they were open later, they tried to be as accommodating as they could while we rushed to finish up. I was especially impressed by their manager. I believe her name was Nisha. It’s supposed to be first month free but it’s all a lie as soon as you get there you pay an “administrative fee “ which is basically the cost of one months rent. All the pop up fees , then adding insurance is mandatory so that’s an extra $12+. Save your time and go elsewhere. The staff were nice but not worth the price.

i reserved what I thought was a 5x10 unit for $114. 1st month free and free truck for 2 hrs with 24 hrs notice. If it sounds to good to be true it is. I paid $25 for administration fee + 12 for insurance. When I took some items back 3 days later to put in unit. I took a tape measure with me the unit measured 5x8. I spoke to the person that was there that said the unit was approximate 5x10 I explained 5x9 1/2 or 3/4 is approximate not 2 feet difference. I was told I could get the 5x10 for $137 I said I want the unit I contracted to have. It was Sunday I was told the Manager Mrs Cruz would return Tuesday. I called she was not in I spoke to a Mr Jones who told me the same thing also I could not get the money back I paid. I call this bait and switch especially since I did not see 5x8 advertised on site. I chalk up the loss why would I pay more to be cheated.

I have been storing my stuff here for the last 10 months .. and it was out of necessity and convenience. This location AND this company I wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy. The experience of dealing with the staff if horrendous. My guess... If you're paying people low, they couldn't care less... Or if you have your thumb on your employees and scare them half to death, they won't be able to treat your customers right. Every employees IS a manager, and there's a GM... Well, if you're a manager, why can't you make decisions on your own, by using common sense... They won't! If you're the GM, shouldn't you be empathetic! Nope, I'm asking for too much! The very first encounter was terrible. I came in to rent a locker, and the manager insisted that I needed a lock and its key in hand, at the time of signing the lease... Not in half hour, not by end of day and definitely not tomorrow .. she needs to "SEE" it right then and there...why would I rent a locker and not be prepared to have a lock for it? I sure wouldn't walk away from the locker with all my belongings unsecured! And so she sold me a very fine, but very expensive lock... Which I have no use for now coz it's too damn big. If you were looking to upsell me, you could've said you and told me about the advantages of this lock! They offer to let you use their van for free to move in by paying a $10 admin fee, which is refundable soon as you return the van, fully loaded, etc etc etc... why are you insisting on me paying you cash for the deposit when there are no banks around this location? So you have to go to the gas station, withdraw, incur a fee that could have been avoided... Her argument is we don't want to tie up your cash coz it might take a few days to go back in your account... #1 transactions of the day can be voided in the retail world.. #2 maybe I'm not so pressed to get that $10 back so soon. So I called corporate to voice my concerns... And the gentleman took my in info, and would have the district manager call me... My phone rings and it's the GM of the location who says she got word of my concerns and wanted to resolve them with me... If I have an issue with you and you're not budging and I escalate the issue to your superiors, it's coz you don't know what you're doing, nor why you're doing what you're doing. I specifically asked to speak to your superior... Then a gentleman calls me... He's the regional manager... Or so he claimed... He wanted to know what my issues were... Well... I see clear communication is an issue with cubesmart... After my rant, his answer is it's our policy... Don't you hate it when an employee regurgitate IT'S OUR POLICY without understanding policy, its uses, it's reason for being.. but they blindly oblige and applicate... Clerks... Clerks everywhere. If you want to know how good a company is, sit in the reception area and watch the GM engage in gossip about the other GMs and employees... As a GM, your job is to unite your staff into one entity, a cohesive entity... What's with these hours? 9-6... Businesses are open 9-6... People work 9-6... You're a convenience entity... You ought to work around the schedule if your customers. Open a bit earlier and stay open a bit later... On the other hand... This location is very clean, spotless.

The workers are very slow here. There's only one freight elevator to which you constantly have to put a code in to keep the door open if you're loading up. Let me start by saying how terrified me and my wife were to think that we had to place our household items into a storage unit. Having to place an entire one bedroom apartment into storage became one of the most stressful moments in our lives... that is until Cubesmart came along. After looking through what seems to be highly competative Self Storage market, Cubesmart on 255 Exterior Street caught our attention with its clean cut blue and red color schemes. Upon entering the office we were greeted by two very friendly staff members looking to assist with what ever our questions or needs were. This was a great start. Ashley the facility manager was very instrumental in guiding us with best storage tips to help maximize the use of the prospective unit. Ashley was patient enough to walk us through the process and to see the different size units that would best match our needs. I will simply say, it was a breeze. The facility was clean, well lit, secure, temperature controled, there were plenty of carts to help tenants move items around, and I also noticed other happy tenants walking around... Can't beat that huh. Needless to say I signed on. Fast forward to move in day... There is a freight elevator as big as the truck I rented. It was clean, and easy to operate. In and out in no time. I want to give a special shout out to Hector and Ashley, due to the busy New York Yankee traffic around the facility I arrived late to store some last minute items. They were patient and generous enough to allow us a few extra minutes to enter and put away our stuff. Hector assisted in guiding us to our floor while providing an unprecedented level of customer service considering we were there at closing time. The entire team here is absolutely awesome, I'm very pleased with the level of commitment shown. Keep up the fantastic work guys. JF

I observed a very clean / tidy premises on 138 Exterior Street in the Bronx. Manager & Staff the day I went had amazing customer service, they also find a way to accomdate their clients, Also, I've been to many other CubeSmart self storages but none like this site. I would recommend 138th Exterior Street, Bronx NY to ANYONE! Thanks for the service, DON'T CHANGE!

Worst than this it can be from location to customer service to the very bad smell in all 3rd floor where I have my locker.all my stuff smells like that. They simple don t care about anything. Is impossible to get in or out due to the high traffic in front of the storage.. just don t go

AWSOME! Liz, the general manager and Ricky, her manager went so far out of their way to help me in a situation that was more than difficult. It is unusual these days to find someone who can be compassionate and to actually WANT to help a customer in trouble and they were the best. I will be forever grateful for their help. Awesome staff! Starting from the manager Elizabeth to her staff they all take pride in their job because it reflects in how good they take care of you at the front desk and also the grounds are always kept clean. Very nice people. Only thing I didn't like was that after been offer a unit with 15% discount online, said unit had issues. Was offered the unit right next to it (same size) but was not given the 15% discount. Other than that, good customer service.

Wonderful and professional experience with cubesmart on 225 exterior street. the staff is quite knowledgeable and helpful. The dolly and parking were a great surprise. something i thought may take all day took perhaps a half hour not even... used the bathroom it was clean.. yes money well spent here..

Signing up for my unit was very easy. Liz was very efficient and the process was seamless. The location of this facility is a little difficult because it is right by a busy bridge and highway area. This review is mainly based on the hours of the facility. Their website states that they are open from 9am-7pm, however, this does not seem to be the case. I have visited my unit 3 times since signing up and have not had a pleasant experience. As a working individual the hours are a bit of a concern, I've left work early in order to give myself a sufficient amount of time to put my things into storage. On all of my visits I have heard the employees state that they close at 6:45pm and that there is no access to the units after that time. They rudely announce this via their intercom and will single you out if you are there a minute past 6:45pm. "To the people on the --- floor we closed 1 minute ago and will begin to close the gates, please vacate the facility". If that isn't rude, I'm not sure what is. If the access hours are until 7pm, PAYING CUSTOMERS should not be asked to vacate the facility before that time. Be considerate of your clients and don't kick them out prior to closing hours. Overall the facility is very clean and orderly, the loading dock and parking is convenient. The promotions are fantastic and prices are reasonable.

This is my second storage with CubeSmart. The staff is very professional. The facility is clean and comfortable to be at (smells nice also). The security is excellent. There is parking for cars and a place for large moving trucks to back right up to the freight elevator. I have never seen any rodents or insects whatsoever, a big plus in NYC. They really do have everything that one needs in order to store and move things. Highly recommended.

From the opening of of my account with Martina to the finishing up of some last minute business with Liz and Ricky, the entire staff at cube smart was extremely friendly, accommodating, helpful and courteous. Liz in particular. Today , she went out of her way to track down my old accounts and help me get some financial things in order. Most storage places wouldn't help you like this , when you are a current customer-much less a former one. The price is great for a very convenient location (one stop from Manhattan and right across from train station). The place was very clean and the storage space is perfect!

First class service at a top notch clean facility. Moved from a competitor to this location just because of how nice and helpful Naomi and Martina were at the front desk. A class of professionalism and customer service that is above and beyond any peers. The use of the free van is also a nice touch that no one else seems to have caught on to yet.
