This is one of a series of stories we are sharing to show what’s inside CubeSmart. You not only get a peek inside our customer’s storage unit, but also a peek inside what is important to them. Thank you to Shaneka Baker, a customer of our CubeSmart store in Dallas, for sharing her story with us.
Hurricane Ike brought Shaneka to the Dallas area from Houston. After the devastation, she wanted to escape hurricane territory and found herself needing storage space.
“Moving to Dallas was a great move, but it left me with less living space,” Shaneka said. That’s because after moving into the city, she realized an apartment was the best place for her and her two grown children for the time being. The move was a tough adjustment for everyone but they are moving forward.
“I’m working two jobs to get by,” the real estate broker and Doordash delivery driver said. “Coming North to the Dallas area, I lost over 1,000 sq feet of living space in my home,” Shaneka said. She doesn’t have a pantry or a dining room in a two bedroom apartment. She didn’t want to give up her extra furniture and other household items just yet.
Shaneka started renting out a few different storage units around the Dallas area but was never really happy with the service or the prices. She rented a number of storage units in different locations but needed a bigger unit all in one place.
In 2017, a friend told her about CubeSmart and the different options and security they offered in their units. She went into the facility and really liked what she saw. She ended up switching locations because of the convenience and the friendly staff. CubeSmart is where she wanted to stay.
Shaneka is now a regular at CubeSmart. She’s thrilled with the service and staff at the 5818 LBJ Fwy Dallas location. They are very welcoming and always go the extra mile whenever she needs anything.
“I couldn’t be happier now,” says Shaneka. “I feel like the CubeSmart workers are a part of my team. They’ve helped me so much. I appreciate them every day.”
