It’s no secret that housing costs have skyrocketed in recent years.

Whether renting or purchasing a home, Americans are shelling out more of their monthly income for a place to call home.

But with the rise of remote work and digital nomads who can essentially work from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection, workers now have more flexibility in where they live — and can save money on rent in the process.

Are you looking for a change of scenery and an opportunity to save some green on living expenses? We analyzed rental data from Zumper to compile a list of cities across the country that boast rents that won’t break the bank.

Houston

City Population: 2.3 million

Average Rent: $1,310 (1-bed) / $1,640 (2-bed)

For being one of the largest cities in the country, Houston has some of the most affordable apartment rents among big cities and metro areas.

In this Texas city, renters get big bang for their buck. Houston is home to several big-league sports teams, renowned cultural institutions and a plethora of dining and nightlife options to keep people busy day in and day out.

Minneapolis

City Population: 300,431

Average Rent: $1,230 (1-bed) / $1,820 (2-bed)

Looking for a progressive atmosphere with a midwestern sensibility? Look no further than Minneapolis.

The larger of Minnesota’s Twin Cities (wave to St. Paul across the river), Minneapolis offers a surprising depth of cultural institutions and cachet — and a reasonable cost of living.

Outside of New York, Minneapolis is the premier theater city in America. Theater lovers are sure to keep their evenings busy with the more than 200 performing arts venues spread across Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The region is also known for a diverse economy and sizable student population thanks to two campuses of the University of Minnesota.

Pittsburgh

City Population: 300,431

Average Rent: $1,210 (1-bed) / $1,410 (2-bed)

This Pennsylvania city has been shedding its rust belt reputation in recent years, transforming into a hub for tech, higher education and healthcare.

The area is home to 68 colleges and universities, including major research centers Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Big-name employers such as Google and Microsoft have helped bolster Pittsburgh’s tech city bona fides.

There’s also a vibrant arts and culture scene that’s home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and plays host to traveling Broadway and other shows.

All of this and affordable rent? When can we move?

Raleigh, NC

City Population: 469,124

Average Rent: $1,300 (1-bed) / $1,550 (2-bed)

Often named one of the best places to live and a top city in the American Southeast, Raleigh offers southern comfort and charm at rents that won’t sting.

The North Carolina capital boasts a delicious culinary scene and plentiful outdoor activities for when you need to step away from the laptop for a breath of fresh air.

There’s also a healthy economy and numerous educational opportunities. Eleven different colleges and universities operate campuses in the Raleigh region in case you’re looking to enhance your skills or pursue a passion.

Oklahoma City

City Population: 687,725

Average Rent: $850 (1-bed) / $990 (2-bed)

The largest city in Oklahoma has some of the cheapest rents among big U.S. cities.

Along with remarkably affordable apartment costs for a metro area its size, just about everything around OKC is a relative bargain.

Despite its low-cost living, Oklahoma City delivers on big-city amenities and attractions. From the city’s philharmonic orchestra to the NBA’s Thunder, you have plenty of entertainment to check out with that extra cash not going to rent.

Memphis may be the City of Blues, but you won’t be feeling low when paying rent. This Tennessee city has one of the most affordable costs of living for renters.

In addition to cheap rent, you’ll enjoy a city rich in music, history and fun. And don’t miss Memphis barbecue. The city’s distinct take on beloved BBQ includes its distinctive rub and Memphis BBQ Sauce.

For nightlife lovers, Memphis’ famous Beale Street will keep you out partying well into the night.

Wichita, Kansas

City Population: 395,699

Perhaps the best part? An affordable cost of living compared to other U.S. cities.

So, what are you waiting for?

Cheer on the NFL’s Bengals and MLB’s Reds, learn the history of the city’s unique brewing culture and find your home among one of Cincy’s dozens of great neighborhoods.

Syracuse, NY

City Population: 146,103
